CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING Welcome to modern Earth. Supernatural forces are out in the open, their merry children prancing under the daylight and lurking in the night. Mortals and the undead, monsters and humans, hold hands and swing fists in unison; society is split by species and status, and corruption flows in money and blood. BACKGROUND Hyperion is a Cup. This means that he was not destined to have a comfortable life. Born Scott Lynch, and his twin brother Aaron, who did not have priv-blood, was never as unlucky as he was. As they grew up however, Aaron realized there was an opportunity in helping Scott sell his blood to bring more money into their household, and became the charismatic face of the twin duo, selling magical blood around the neighborhood. Unfortunately, greed never lets family ties go untouched. Aaron was exceptionally good at telling people what to do, and once Scott told him he wanted to stop drawing blood for Insomniacs that could eat him alive in the blink of an eye, the partnership became coercion. Scott finally realized what the brother he grew up with had turned into, and it was not a great sign of things to come. Both of them became dropouts and moved to a larger city to live together. They were living comfortably, but only Aaron was seen out and about while Scott stayed inside, hidden, scared and resentful, secretly using his blood to learn the Crafts. As he grew more fluent, Aaron became more influential. Once Scott built some confidence, he told Aaron that he wanted out again. In an attempt to show Scott why and how he would regret doing that, Aaron instead instigated a struggle in which his brother used the Crafts to kill him. With his brother dead and at an utter loss, Scott ran away. The guilt, then the fear, both haunted him. He'd been held captive for years, a prisoner to his own family, but murder— On his own and with nothing to fall back on, he used blood to make the money he needed to get away. There he picked up the name Hyperion, an alias he had picked up in his teenage years, and erased his past. But the past had a way of catching up. Kaena, a witch and leader of The Forest, had first heard of the twins years back. Having done business with Aaron on multiple occasions, she knew Hyperion's real name and his secret, and used both to get what she wanted. Captured, Hyperion was made a victim of the coven-gang. For years they drained him for all that he had; Kaena marked him with tattoos to claim him and protect her property from anyone that tried to steal him from her. But Kaena wasn't just a priv-blood dealer — she had a great influence and power across many layers of business, conducted in all kinds of transactions, in all kinds of currency. Two brothers who had been keepers of the Bestiary — a dimensional prison of monsters too dangerous for mankind — came to her, asking for a trade: that she surrendered someone who practiced the Crafts in exchange for access to the monsters they kept, within reason. Seeing as she wasn't going to give up a member of her coven, she instead dug Hyperion up from her collection and used him as a trading coin. Thus Hyperion was freed from her clutches, but was still imprisoned. This time his servitude went towards something greater and more terrifying than anything his miserable imagination could have predicted; years later, just as he had become marginally good at his job, one of the monsters tricked him into setting them all free. His task (and punishment) shifted to tracking and bringing them all back to their prison. In order to accomplish this, he was given unconditional immortality. AGE: 34 APPEARANCE: Ryan Gosling as seen in Place Beyond the Pines. See here for his collection of tattoos. See here for Helios' biography. PERSONALITY Tall but not remarkably muscled, Hyperion's presence can be imposing and unwelcoming, but not antagonistic. There are changes from the man he used to be: humble, kept to himself and easy to get along with, and not always the brightest crayon in the box. Sometimes you can still find a hint of a smirk in his lips, but you'll always see the heavy thoughts behind his eyes. Hyperion generally presents himself as a calm, collected but distant man, polite enough to keep a conversation going with a hint of ironic, mirthless humor. His opinion and help is easily offered, but his true intentions are often concealed. The relationship with his brother played a pivotal role in his life. Aaron was once someone Hyperion looked up to as the charismatic and intelligent one out of the two, the most likely to succeed in any endeavor he decided to pursue. That turned out to be true in all the wrong ways. Now Hyperion spends his life trying to avoid that part of his life, to be his own person, away from his past and from the reputation that still chases him. He thrives in being inconspicuous, wants no more than to be the person you know but don't necessarily remember. His past is a ghost story he doesn't share with anyone. Keeping his hands to himself, Hyperion prefers to talk to one person at a time, to know about them, their weakest points. He struggles when he's forced to be part of a group, and naturally avoids them in order to have an easier time keeping secrets and being unimportant. While he reacts with apparent indifference to antagonism, he can still be upset, though he tries to stay neutral during conflict. He lives to serve his interests above all else, to keep himself safe within his situation, and trusts that no one else can do the job for him. Even in his days as part of Kaena's collection, Hyperion kept to himself. While he is still bound to the monsters, he still values what little freedom he has to travel and work unsupervised, jaded by the years under Aaron, then Kaena's iron law and cynicism. The less involved he has to be with anyone and anything, the better. Hyperion naturally shies away from powerful women and mistrusts those who use the Crafts, knowing it's never brought anyone any good. Himself included. ABILITIES: PRIV-BLOOD - Aside from its taste and addictive nature, it can be used as a catalyst to the Crafts (aka magic potions and spells and etc etc). Hyperion will often use it when needed, despite his opinion of other users. Because it requires a level of self-harm to make himself bleed, he's also learned extensively how to heal and manipulate other aspects of his body in very small amounts. IMMORTALITY - Now that he's filled the world with monsters, it's his job to bring back every creature to the Bestiary. Every beast is more dangerous than the last, so he was given unconditional immortality in order to survive the task. TATTOOS - Kaena's marks over his body bind him to her, but they also serve as protection. No other witch can take his name anymore, no creature can force him to act against his will. |
